8.2. EU-DUNE user experience

User experience is involved in most steps of Matilda’s journey:

  • Matilda authenticates herself in the EU-DUNE service, she is able to choose a nationally issued strong authentication method from the wide selection of methods provided by the service.
    • Strong authentication is prominently emphasized as a failsafe against identity theft and other undesirable side effects.
    • Matilda’s single sign-on session follows her across the EU-DUNE data space, with no need to re-authenticate when moving from one component to another.
  • Upon authenticating herself, Matilda cannot proceed into the service until she has viewed and accepted the Terms of Service of EU-DUNE (and affiliated services).
    • The acceptance is stored as a permission record within the service, and Matilda can review it anytime.
  • Matilda selects whether she is operating on her own (as a private person) or as a DigiFutUX employee (with a budget and possible service contracts attached to her).
    • Depending on the role she selects, the service presents different capabilities in the user interface. In this particular flow, she is acting as an employee.
  • Matilda changes the language of the service to her native language from the default provided (which she understands but is not comfortable with).
    • The language selection follows her to each different component of which the EU-DUNE data space is composed and is stored so that it is automatically set in future sessions.
  • EU-DUNE suggests that Matilda first completes her profile and provides her with a link to follow into SkillProfiX to gather data from her employment and education history.
    • Matilda is able to use the service fully despite her uncommon dichromacy (the service has been implemented in a way that colour is never the sole signifying factor in any interaction decision).
  • SkillProfiX requests consent to gather the personal data from the multitude of data sources.
    • Matilda reviews the consent request and the related information (shown as embedded content by InfraTrust) and agrees to grant her consent by clicking a prominently displayed button.
  • SkillProfiX displays the digital CV and highlights the deficiencies it has identified by comparing Matilda’s competences against the offered jobs on several job boards.
    • The profile completion status and origin of each data item are prominently displayed in the user interface, so both Matilda and all readers of her CV instantly know where the data are from.
    • Matilda has left work and continues her exploration of the data space on her mobile phone while riding the metro home. She is able to carry on where she left off, and all the data are nicely presented on her phone’s small screen.
  • SkillProfiX invites Matilda to grant her consent to generate a personalized education recommendation by sharing her profile and discovered deficiencies to SDAI.
    • Matilda again reviews the consent request and agrees to grant her consent to generate the education recommendation.
  • SDAI generates the education recommendation based on the mappings between Matilda’s deficiencies and the offerings in several training catalogues.
    • Matilda is able to view the recommendations as a whole and seek out details of each individual training detailed within.
  • Matilda selects a particular course. To move forward with the participation on the course, SkillProFiX invites her to directly contact the education provider. To do that, Matilda needs to grant consent for the education provider to a subset of her data (contact details).
    • SkillProfiX creates the consent request, restricting the requested data to just the minimal needed for contacting Matilda.
    • Matilda reviews the consent request and is particularly pleased that her social security number is not among the data requested. She agrees to grant her consent.
    • Matilda does not get an immediate response from the service, but the service informs her that the first contact requires human attention, and it may take a while before a response arrives.
  • Anita, a salesperson at IntelliAITraining logs in to her account on EU-DUNE and sees a notification about Matilda’s interest in the course. She provides Matilda further information and self-service enrolment link in a message.
    • Matilda gets a notification on her phone regarding the next steps, and she reads the message containing a link to all the necessary information for enrolment.
  • Matilda decides to enrol in the course. To do so, she must provide IntelliAITraining with her education profile. As she has had no previous need to do so, the service provider requests her consent to share her profile.
    • Matilda reviews the consent request and agrees to grant her consent.
  • Following the completion of the course, information about Matilda’s new competence is stored in the EU-DUNE data space. It is immediately visible to Matilda and her employer.
    • Matilda views the listing of her consent requests and elects to revoke those she no longer needs after completion of her course.
